Caltrain Collides With Car In Redwood City

REDWOOD CITY (CBS SF) -- A commuter train hit a car in Redwood City Wednesday evening, causing major delays for trains moving in both directions, Caltrain officials said.

Caltrain Train 272 struck the car after it accidentally turned on to the train tracks at Maple Street around 6 p.m.

A woman and two children managed to get out of the car by the time the train struck it, and no injuries were reported.

Both tracks were closed for about 45 minutes, when the northbound tracks opened and trains in both directions proceeded slowly through the area.

The car was cleared from the tracks and the southbound tracks reopened at about 7:30 p.m., however major delays for all trains remain tonight.

Passengers on train 272 evacuated and boarded other southbound trains.
