Jailed Man In Salinas Jumps From Upper Floor In Failed Suicide Attempt

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- A Monterey County jail inmate suffered a head injury Sunday after he jumped from an upper floor in an apparent suicide attempt, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

The inmate, Christopher Sorensen, was released from his one-person lockdown cell just before noon for his hourly daily exercise period when he jumped from C Pod's upper tier, a Sheriff's Office statement said.

He fell around 20 feet and landed on a concrete floor. Deputies and on-duty medical personnel administered first aid and Sorensen was flown from the jail in Salinas to a Bay Area hospital for advanced medical care.

He is expected to survive and fully recover, officials said.
