Shooting At Pittsburg-Bay Point BART Station Sends Victim To Hospital

PITTSBURG (CBS SF) -- A shooting in the Pittsburg BART station parking lot sent an 18-year-old man into surgery Thursday night, a deputy police chief said.

Police received reports of a gunshot victim in the parking lot at 6:50 p.m., Deputy Police Chief Ben Fairow said.

The victim was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with life-threatening injuries and he required surgery Thursday night, Fairow said.

Police have not located a suspect in the case and are continuing to gather evidence in the parking lot and interview witnesses.

There was a vehicle collision in the lot that was somehow related to the shooting, but Fairow said that it was unclear whether the victim was driving the car when he was shot.

Trains were held at the station and other trains were not permitted to enter the station while police investigated and ensured that a possible suspect was not departing on a train. Trains resumed normal service late Thursday night.

Pittsburg police and the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office assisted BART police in the investigation.
