DNA Leads Police To 1985 Mountain View Murder Suspect
MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS/AP) -- Authorities have arrested a Fresno man in the 1985 murder of a woman whose body was found in a supermarket garbage bin in Santa Clara County.
Mountain View police say 53-year-old Daniel Garcia was charged with murder Friday after investigators used DNA evidence to link the convicted offender to the killing of 21-year-old Saba Girmai.
Officials say Garcia was being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Palo Alto in Santa Clara County Superior Court.
The cold-case arrest comes 28 years after someone found Girmai's body in the garbage bin behind the Bailey Park Plaza shopping center in Mountain View.
Officials say Santa Clara County investigators matched Garcia's DNA profile to evidence developed two years ago from the victim's fingernails.
