Black Ice Blamed For Pileup In Berkeley Hills

BERKELEY (CBS 5) - Freezing East Bay temperatures led to a pileup on the streets of Berkeley overnight.

Black ice caused several cars to loose traction near the Claremont Resort early Monday. The pileup began when one driver lost control and slammed a nearby car.

"(A) second vehicle comes down shortly thereafter, loses control, strikes the first vehicle as they're assessing damage third vehicle...and we have a dogpile through vehicle number five," Officer Benjamin Sarno said.

No one was hurt in the wreck, and police said they'll investigate the cause of the pooling water that eventually formed into the treacherous ice.
