Gov. Brown Says Oakland Must 'Solve Its Own Problems'

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- California Gov. Jerry Brown said Oakland will have to "solve its own problems," during a news conference for the University of California in San Francisco Wednesday.

The former mayor of Oakland had strong words for Oakland's city leaders after a surge in violent crimes in the past few years.

"Certainly I want to help where we can, but Oakland has to solve its own problems," said Brown in San Francisco, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Earlier in the week, police chief Howard Johnson attributed most of Oakland's crime to two feuding groups in the city.

The governor and his wife own a home in the Oakland hills.
