Jan Wahl Movie Review: Identity Thief

IDENTITY THIEF (R)

This is one of those movies that turns you to a higher power - as in, please Lord, make this movie end. Two usually funny people, Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Mike and Molly) and Jason Bateman (one of the greatest sitcoms ever: Arrested Development) star in this misguided weirdness. Not only is this not funny, it's sad to follow a violent, lying thief (McCarthy) stealing a poor guy's identity, turning him into a felon and worse. You can tell a movie is in trouble when repetitive beating, jabs, kicks, car crashes and snacks all turn up but for no apparent reason. This movie should be rated G - for garbage.
