SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— A preliminary hearing was underway Wednesday at San Francisco’s Hall of Justice to determine if a cyclist who struck and killed a 71-year-old pedestrian in the Castro District will be charged with felony vehicular manslaughter.
Chris Bucchere struck Sutchi Hui at the busy intersection of Castro and Market Street on March 29, 2012. Three witnesses to the accident offered testimony Wednesday. Two of them were pedestrians in the crosswalk at the time of the accident. Both of them said Bucchere was going incredibly fast and did not appear to slow down, but did yell toward pedestrians prior to the crash.
The third witness was driving a car and said Bucchere blew through four stop signs and four stoplights before the collision. He also testified Bucchere tried to maneuver before the crash.
Surveillance video captured images of the collision. The footage is being used by both the prosecution and the defense. Two more witnesses are expected to be called to the stand on Wednesday and a ruling on the charge is expected the same day.
