Man Allegedly Punches San Francisco Police Officer Outside Party

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A 38-year-old man was arrested after allegedly punching a police officer in the nose outside of a party in San Francisco's Potrero Hill neighborhood on Thursday night, a police spokesman said.

William Jones was arrested after an attack reported at 11:16 p.m. Thursday near 25th and Connecticut streets, where officers were at the scene to disperse people drinking and being loud, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

Jones tried to return to the party and was approached by an officer. He then punched the officer in the face, and was arrested shortly afterward on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and being drunk in public, Esparza said.

Jones also had an outstanding warrant for an open container violation, Esparza said.

The officer went to a hospital to be treated for his injuries while Jones was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for a complaint of pain to his shoulder, according to Esparza.
