Cereal Maker Wants To Pack Its Boxes And Move Out Of California

MODESTO (KCBS) - It looks like your next box of Raisin Bran or Grape Nuts will roll off a production line somewhere other than Modesto.

Post Foods announced last week that it has made a tentative decision to shut down its last plant in the Golden State. A final decision on the Modesto plant is expected in April.

If the closure does happen, Post will simply shift production operations normally done in Modesto to one of its other manufacturing facilities, which are in Battle Creek, Mich., Jonesboro, Ark., and Niagra Falls, Ontario.

There were no indications that any of the 140 Modesto plant employees would be offered work at any of Post's other facilities, but company officials have gone on record as saying they will work with the employees' union to make sure their interests are represented during the closure process.
