7-Year-Old Boy Shot In Backyard Of Antioch Home

ANTIOCH (CBS/AP) -- Antioch police say a 7-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was shot in the backyard of a home during a family barbecue.

Police say the boy was hit by a single bullet when a gunman, or gunmen opened fire on the gathering from a nearby overpass a little after 4 p.m. Saturday.

A police spokesman says the boy was hit by one round and was in stable condition at a local hospital where he was being treated for what was described as non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators don't believe the boy was the intended target. No one else was hit by the gunfire.

Police say the boy and his family were visiting from out of town for the barbecue.

No suspects in the shooting have been identified.

Anyone with additional information on this shooting is asked to call Antioch police at (925) 778-2441, or send anonymous tips to 274637, with a message starting with the word "Antioch."
