FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) – Fairfield police arrested a man suspected of stabbing another man in front of a Home Depot store Friday morning.

The suspect, Paul Springs, 47, was arrested on Beck Avenue near Cadenasso Drive after witnesses told police where he was last seen after the assault, Sgt. Randy Boggs said.

Springs and the victim are Fairfield-area transients who know each other, and neither one is cooperating with police in the investigation, Boggs said.

The stabbing was reported around 10:45 a.m. in front of the Home Depot store at 2121 Cadenasso Drive, Boggs said.

The 51-year-old victim suffered a severe cut to his left arm, Boggs said. He was taken to NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield and was having surgery this morning.

Neither Springs nor the victim would give police a statement about the incident, Boggs said.

Police recovered a box cutter-type knife allegedly used in the assault from Springs, who was booked into the Solano County jail on suspicion assault with a deadly weapon, Boggs said.
