Driver Critically Injured In Richmond Shooting

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- A man is in critical condition after being shot while driving in Richmond Friday afternoon, police said.

The shooting was reported around 3 p.m. on Richmond Parkway between Giant Highway and Hilltop Drive, Richmond police Sgt. T. Ellis said.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

He was airlifted to a hospital where he is being treated for critical injuries, Ellis said.

Police Lt. Bisa French said the victim was driving on Richmond Parkway when he was shot.

A male passenger in the car fled the scene and police have not confirmed whether he was injured in the shooting, French said.

No information about suspects was immediately available this afternoon.

Richmond Parkway was closed following the shooting but was expected to reopen a short time after 4:30 p.m.
