Light Rail Crashes With Vehicle In San Jose, Driver Hospitalized

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A collision between a Valley Transportation Authority light rail train and a car in San Jose sent the car's driver to the hospital Thursday, a VTA spokeswoman said.

The collision happened around 5 p.m. at North First Street and Metro Drive, VTA spokeswoman Brandi Childress said.

The driver of the car was taken to Regional Medical Center. The severity of the driver's injuries was not yet clear.

A bus bridge was temporarily put in place between the Civic Center and Karina light rail stations while the accident was cleared. Light rail service was restored around 6 p.m.
