81-Year-Old Man Hit, Killed In San Jose Crosswalk

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Investigators are trying to reach the family of an 81-year-old man struck and killed in a crosswalk Monday night in East San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

The medical examiner's office will not release the man's name until investigators can confirm the victim's family has been notified, a spokeswoman for the office said.

About 9:30 p.m., the man was walking across White Road in a crosswalk near Madeline Drive a block north of James Lick High School when the driver of a vehicle headed north on White hit him, San Jose police spokesman Officer Albert Morales said.

The driver cooperated with police and the circumstances of the accident are under investigation, Morales said.

The death brought to 10 the number of people killed in San Jose so far this year in vehicle accidents involving pedestrians and bicyclists, Morales said.
