San Francisco's Political Leaders Ecstatic About Hosting Super Bowl L

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— The rotunda at San Francisco's City Hall was packed full of Warriors fans on Tuesday when Mayor Ed Lee was passed a note and a big smile broke out on his face.

The city's political and civic leaders were gathered for a Warrior's Day celebration, but it was the news about another sport that Lee was reacting to. You didn't have to be a mind reader to figure out that the note said the Bay Area had won the competition to host Super Bowl L.

Lee confirmed the news in an announcement moments later.

"I just want to make this short announcement and get on with this, but I just want to let you all know, San Francisco has been named the host of Super Bowl 50," he said to the cheers of those at the gathering.

Former Mayor Willie Brown was equally ecstatic even though, in his idea of a perfect world, the game would be played in a new 49ers stadium in San Francisco, not the stadium under construction in Santa Clara.

"I can just see the whole city being a washed in the colors of the 32 NFL teams and the occasion will be just plain spectacular," Brown said.

Supervisor Mark Farrell was on board with the rest since he served on the host committee that made the Super Bowl bid.

"Great cities host great events and we're going to do an amazing job in San Francisco in a few years."
