Sonoma County Man Who Brutally Killed Father Found To Be Insane
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) - A Sonoma County jury has found that a man convicted of murdering his father at their Rincon Valley home in November 2011 was insane at the time of the crime.
The defense attorney for Houston Herczog, 22, had argued that he suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and was not sane when he stabbed his 63-year-old father Mark Herczog dozens of times on Nov. 21, 2011.
Prosecutors had alleged that Herczog killed his father in a drug-induced rage.
The verdict in the sanity phase of Herczog's trial was read Tuesday afternoon in Sonoma County Superior Court in Santa Rosa.
The elder Herczog was stabbed more than 50 times and a guitar amplifier was dropped on his head in the kitchen of the family's home.
