1 Arrest In Connection With San Jose Grass Fire

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Police have detained someone in connection with a grass fire off of Interstate Highway 280 in San Jose, a fire official said Saturday.

The fire in the area of Story Road and Remillard Court, first reported around 2:50 p.m., was contained but not under control as of around 4:10 p.m., according to San Jose Fire Capt. Reggie Williams.

It burned around five acres and did not threaten any structures, Williams said. No injuries were reported, but police have detained someone in connection with the fire, Wiliams said.

The cause remains under investigation.

The fire is the second such blaze that San Jose firefighters have responded to Saturday.

A fire reported at 11:40 a.m. at Great Oaks Parkway and Endicott Boulevard was brought under control shortly after 1 p.m., Williams said.

One vacant structure was threatened, but firefighters extinguished the blaze before it damaged the building.

The cause of the fire, which burned around 4 acres, remains under investigation. Williams noted that there were people holding barbecues at nearby Ramac Park, so the fire could turn out to be accidental.
