Michael Jordan Skipping Tahoe Celeb Golf In July

LAKE TAHOE (CBS/AP) — Michael Jordan is skipping the celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe next month for the first time in seven years.

Tournament officials have announced in a statement that a scheduling appearance will prevent the NBA hall of famer from playing in the 24th annual American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course July 19-21. No other details were released.

Jordan has played in 17 previous celebrity tournaments on the shores of Lake Tahoe. His best finish was ninth when he debuted in 1990. That was the summer before he consecutively won two of his career five NBA MVP awards.

Other regulars committed this year include Charles Barkley, Jerry Rice, John Elway and Ray Romano.

Michael Phelps, the 18-time Olympic swimming gold medal winner, plans to play for the first time.
