Extreme Temperatures Prompt Amtrak Speed Restrictions; Expect delays

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Extreme heat has caused Amtrak to enforce speed restrictions on trains Saturday morning, which might result in service delays, officials announced Saturday morning.

The speed restriction will affect San Joaquin service of the Oakland to Bakersfield section owned by BNSF Railway, according to Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari. The speed restriction has been implemented due to anticipated extreme heat this afternoon

Passengers could see delays of a half-hour or more, Magliari said. He encourages passengers to follow Amtrak tweets or go to Amtrak.com to check on routes and possible delays.
