Man Jumps Fence At SF Zoo, Runs Through Animal Enclosures

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A man was cited for trespassing on Sunday after allegedly jumping a fence at the San Francisco Zoo and running through animal exhibits, police and zoo officials said.

The man, 24-year-old Los Angeles resident Justin Montgomery, apparently did not want to pay the entrance fee at the zoo, San Francisco police spokesman Sgt. Dennis Toomer said.

The incident happened at about 11:15 a.m. when Montgomery allegedly jumped a security fence and went into the African Savanna exhibit, according to zoo officials.

He then ran through other areas of the zoo, including the Primate Discovery Center, and jumped into some plants adjacent to the mandrill exhibit, zoo officials said.

The animals were secured, and police arrived to take Montgomery into custody shortly after 11:40 a.m., zoo officials said.

No animals or zoo staff were injured in the incident.
