Police Probing Gang Ties To Richmond Shootings, Police Car Ramming
RICHMOND (CBS SF) - Richmond police are investigating a series of violent incidents during the past two days including shootings that wounded five people and a car chase in which a suspect vehicle rammed into a police car.
Officers responded around 4:30 p.m. Monday to a ShotSpotter activation near the intersection of Carlson Boulevard and Pullman Avenue, Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.
A short time later, Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center personnel called to alert police that four gunshot victims had arrived there, including two in critical condition, she said.
All four suspects are expected to survive.
Abetkov said police have few leads in the case since the victims, who are all known gang members, aren't cooperating with the investigation.
Around 11:30 p.m., an officer attempted to stop a car carrying four men the officer recognized as gang members, the sergeant said.
The car didn't yield to police and rammed the officer's vehicle before heading onto eastbound Interstate Highway 80 near Barrett Street, prompting a chase, she said.
During the pursuit, which continued across the Carquinez Bridge, the suspects threw four guns out of the car's windows, Abetkov said.
The chase came to an end in Vallejo after California Highway Patrol officers used spike strips to stop the suspect car.
The four suspects were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, gun possession and gang enhancements.
Police have not released their names.
There is nothing to indicate the four suspects were involved with the Monday shooting, Abetkov said.
Another shooting occurred around 1 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Seventh Street and Chanslor Avenue, the sergeant said.
An officer driving nearby heard the gunfire and arrived to find a teenage boy who had been shot in his arm.
He was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
No suspects have been arrested in connection with that shooting, which remains under investigation.
