Smoke From Rim Fire Expected To Affect Reno, Tahoe Area Through Labor Day Weekend

RENO (CBS/AP) -- Authorities say smoke from a record wildfire in and around Yosemite National Park in California will continue to affect the Reno and Lake Tahoe areas through Labor Day weekend.

National Weather Service meteorologist Mark Deutschendorf said the regional air quality will continue to vary depending on fire behavior and wind conditions.
Deutschendorf says the sky may clear at times, only to darken with smoke hours later.

A smoky haze is expected most in Minden, Gardnerville and South Lake Tahoe.

The Rim Fire has burned more than 315 square miles of mountainous forest, and prompted cancellation of outdoor scholastic sports activities across eastern California and northwestern Nevada.

Officials reported Friday that the fire was 32 percent contained.
