Worlds Of Tech & Proto-Punk Collide At San Jose's Inaugural C2SV Conference

SAN JOSE (KCBS)— What some are calling Silicon Valley's version of the South by Southwest festival takes place this weekend in San Jose in the form of the C2SV arts and technology conference.

Create Converge Silicon Valley (C2SV) Technology Conference and Music Festival is holding its inaugural even October 26th through 29th.

The festival is largely inspired by the annual SXSW event in Austin, Texas, which has grown immensely in recent years. The South Bay version isn't holding back with their music lineup including legendary proto-punks Iggy & The Stooges, local Bay Area garage rockers Thee Oh Sees, psychedelic outfit Sleepy Sun and So-Cal's DAM Funk doing a DJ set.

"What we're looking at here is bringing together the arts, the new ideas, the thoughts and putting it all together in one place where you can see it, understand it and also get excited about it," said Roger Sanford, one of the event's organizers.

While the concerts will be held at night, daytime talks and keynote speakers will talk technology, like Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak.

Sanford calls him a "real legend" in the field, but that he's become relatively reclusive in recent years. He said Nolan Bushnell, who worked at Atari with Steve Jobs will also be on-hand at the fest.

Sanford admits attendance is light this year, but he hopes C2SV will one day be as popular as its inspirational counterpart in Austin.
