Oakland Rallies To Gear Up For A's Upcoming Playoff Run

OAKLAND (CBS/BCN) -- The city of Oakland geared up for the Oakland Athletics' upcoming playoff run in Major League Baseball with an "A's Oaktober Rally" Tuesday evening to congratulate the American League West Champions.

The rally was held in Frank Ogawa Plaza in front of Oakland City Hall, the top of which was lit in green and gold.

The Oakland A's won the American League West on Sept. 22 during a game against the Minnesota Twins.

"The dedication and excitement that A's fans showed the team in their astonishing season last year is on full display again this year," Oakland Mayor Jean Quan said.

The Oakland A's will play the Detroit Tigers in the first game of the American League Division Series at the O.co Coliseum on Friday at 6:37 p.m.

Last year the A's took the western division in the final game of the regular season and played the Tigers in the ALDS, losing three of five games.

The winner of the best-of-five series will advance to the American League Championship Series scheduled to start on Oct. 12.
