PETALUMA (CBS SF) — Police arrested a Petaluma man for stalking a female victim and attempting to take her phone on Tuesday evening in Novato, police said.

Daniel Gonzalez Perez, 24, was arrested for suspicion of burglary, stalking, domestic battery, and interfering with the use of a cellphone while making an emergency call, according to officers.

Using a smartphone application to track the victim’s cellphone, Perez located the victim at her friend’s home, police said.

According to police, Perez entered an apartment in the 1500 block of Hill Road, unwanted and without permission. He then confronted the female victim, with whom he apparently has a dating relationship.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the victim reported Perez to police.

Perez was hostile and confrontational and caused the victim to fear for her safety, police said.

The victim left the apartment and got into her vehicle, traveling north on U.S. Highway 101, police said.

Officers said Perez followed her on his motorcycle. Near the East Washington Street exit in Petaluma, Perez stopped his motorcycle in front of her, forcing her to stop her vehicle.

Perez again confronted her and attempted to take her cellphone, police said.

An off-duty Novato police officer was nearby at the time and responded to the scene. The officer detained Perez until additional officers arrived at the scene.

Perez was arrested without incident and booked into the Marin County Jail.
