SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – The word among NFL pundits is that the 49ers desperately need a win when they face the Seahawks at Candlestick Sunday. But John Madden says it’s an important game for the Seahawks as well.
“I think it matters a lot to Seattle,” Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. “The last thing they want to do is limp into the playoffs. You don’t want anything taken away from that. You want to be building from now until the end of the season so that you go into the playoffs at the top of your game. You don’t want any of those nagging feelings to be there — ‘yeah, but’, you know, ‘we lost there, but it didn’t mean as much.’ You can’t do that. I think this is a very important game for both of them, and I think it’s a very good measuring stick for determining where you are right now.”
At 10-1, the Seahawks have clinched a playoff spot and are three games ahead of the 49ers in the NFC West with four games to play. Madden said the home venue will help the 49ers.
“The crowd is not going to be a problem,” Madden said. “(The crowd noise in Seattle is) a big thing whether you like to admit it or not. It’s tough to play offense up there.” (6:30)
