Police Believe Woman Found Dead In Palo Alto Park Was Homeless

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- A woman believed to be homeless was found dead in a Palo Alto park Saturday morning.

First responders arrived at Heritage Park at 351 Homer Ave. around 7:20 a.m. after a passerby reported a woman lying on the ground who didn't appear to be breathing, according to police.

Officers arriving on the scene found the woman, who was pronounced dead.

Police said there were no signs of foul play and that it appears the woman was a transient who frequented the park.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has taken over the investigation and is working to determine the woman's identity and cause of death.

The death comes about three weeks after four homeless people in Santa Clara County succumbed to hypothermia during an unseasonable cold snap.
