Woman Killed By VTA Train In San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A woman killed by a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light-rail vehicle in San Jose on Wednesday morning has been identified as Caprice Crawford, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

Crawford, 47, a resident of Santa Clara, was found after officers received a call at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday about a woman struck by a light-rail vehicle near the Curtner light-rail station at Canoas Garden and Curtner avenues, San Jose police said.

The woman was found 100 to 200 yards away from the station and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Randol.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, Randol said.

The train was out of service traveling northbound to the rail yard and couldn't come to a stop in time as the woman walked along the tracks in dark clothing, VTA spokeswoman Colleen Valles said.

VTA has restored service between the Santa Teresa and Tamien stations as of 6 a.m. and canceled a bus bridge set up for passengers, Valles said.

VTA is running on a Sunday schedule for Christmas Day and won't be expecting much traffic compared to typical weekday, Valles said.
