Victim Of Oakland Shooting Outside Birthday Party Dies

OAKLAND (CBS/CBS SF) -- A man hosting a birthday party for a friend at his East Oakland home has died after being shot late Friday night, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 2300 block of 96th Avenue at about 11:10 p.m., Officer J. Moore said.

When officers arrived they found Frederick Parker suffering from at least one gunshot wound, Moore said.

Police said Parker had gone outside to smoke and was shot on the sidewalk. Police believe there may have been other people outside with Parker but they fled before officers arrived.

The 43-year-old was transported to a hospital and died at 1:01 a.m. Saturday from his wounds.

So far police do not have a motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

This is Oakland's 88th homicide of the year.
