Passenger Plane's Jet Engine Catches Fire At San Jose Airport

SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- Firefighters put out an engine fire on a passenger jet at Mineta San Jose International Airport Tuesday morning, airport officials said.

The report of the engine fire on Delta Flight 1056 to Minneapolis came in around 7:55 a.m.

An airport spokeswoman told KCBS that the jet was one of the 11 planes delayed Tuesday morning due to foggy conditions.

It was scheduled to leave SJC at 6:40 a.m. but was waiting on the tarmac to leave.

The pilot took the plane back to Gate 7 at terminal A where firefighters from the city of San Jose and the airport put out the fire.

There were no reports of injuries and passengers on the flight were taken off the plane.

Delta representatives have yet to return calls for comment.
