Water Conservation Efforts In Full Swing For Some Bay Area Cities
MARIN COUNTY (KCBS)— Water conservation efforts are in full force across the Bay Area. Marin County residents are being asked to cut their water usage voluntarily while one Sonoma County town is imposing mandatory reductions.
The Marin Municipal Water District is asking customers in the 10 towns and cities it serves to be turn their attention to water conservation.
"2013 was a record dry year for us. Our reservoirs are lower than average and no rain is in the forecast," said Libby Pischel with the water district. "We need to be careful, so we're asking our customers to voluntarily reduce their water use by 25 percent."
Some Bay Area Cities Begin Mandatory And Voluntary Water Reduction Measures
Pischel said there are many ways people can conserve water including limiting use of sprinklers. She recommended that by default consumers turn their sprinkler systems off and if your plants are showing signs of stress, then to go ahead and water them.
Meanwhile, in Sonoma County the Healdsburg City Council voted Tuesday night to impose a mandatory water reduction of 20 percent effective immediately.
According to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, watering lawns now is restricted and residents cannot wash their cars in driveways or the street.
