Albany Teen Admits To Making Up Attempted Kidnapping Story

ALBANY (CBS SF) - A 15-year-old boy who told police he was almost kidnapped while walking by the University of California student housing complex in Albany on Friday night admitted earlier Monday that he made up the story.

UC police Lt. Eric Tejada said the teen recanted his story Monday, and investigators have determined that all aspects of his report were unfounded.

The boy had reported an attempted kidnapping that he said occurred around 11 p.m. Friday while he was walking with crutches on Jackson Street near Eighth Street.

He told police a man in an SUV had approached him and tried to get him into the car. The teen said he had escaped after a small tussle and was uninjured.

The boy gave police a description of the suspect and the car.

Police have since determined that none of the story is true, Tejada said.

Police will present the case to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office to determine whether charges should be filed against the teen.
