Alameda Co. Deputy Wounds Suspect In Shooting After Car Chase
SAN LORENZO (CBS / AP) – An East Bay sheriff's deputy has shot and wounded a suspect after a car chase that began with a traffic violation.
Alameda County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Deputy April Luckett said that a suspect driving a black BMW failed to yield to investigators' sirens after a traffic violation Tuesday afternoon in unincorporated Hayward.
Deputies chased the car but lost track of it when it entered Interstate 880 northbound, Luckett said.
Later, another deputy spotted the vehicle in San Lorenzo, she said, and a witness told investigators that it appeared that the deputy fired at the car in fear for his life.
The suspect was apprehended, and he is now recovering at a local hospital from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the bicep, Luckett said.
The deputy involved is a seven-year veteran and is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
