SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— San Francisco fire crews pulled an unconscious and injured man from San Francisco Bay near the Ferry Building Thursday.

A fire department dispatcher told KCBS they got a call just after 5 p.m. that people were trying to rescue a man in the water behind the Ferry Building.

Fire crews, including the fire boat Phoenix, responded and pulled the man out of the water.

The dispatcher said the man was hurt, but did not know the extent of his injuries. He was being stabilized and was said to be on his way to an area hospital.

It is not clear how the man ended up in the Bay.
