BERKELEY (CBS SF) — Lightning destroyed a redwood tree in Berkeley during a powerful storm Monday, damaging a nearby home.

The bolt of lightning struck the 70-foot tall redwood shortly after 1 p.m., spreading chunks of debris across the street.

“I’ve never been so close to lightning. I felt like a bomb went off,” said neighbor Francesca Callejo.

No one was hurt.
