The idea to ban the game emerged after the massacre, by a 17-year-old boy, of 15 students at a school in the German town of Winnenden in March. The Christian Democrat and Social Democrat coalition parties were flooded with angry responses when they announced their plan to forbid the game earlier this month. OAKLAND (CBS SF) — A 5-year-old boy suffered severe eye injuries when he was hit with a paintball in West Oakland on Tuesday evening, police said.

The boy was in a car with his family driving in the 1700 block of Ninth Street at about 6:10 p.m. when a teenager on the sidewalk opened fire with a paintball gun at the car, police Officer Frank Bonifacio said.

The boy was struck in the eye and his family took him to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Bonifacio said.

No one has been arrested for the assault, Bonifacio said.
