4 Hurt, 1 Arrest Arrest Head-On DUI Crash In Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) — Four people were injured, one seriously, Saturday morning in a head-on collision on state Highway 12 caused by an allegedly drunk driver, Santa Rosa police said Saturday.

The collision occurred just after 10:30 a.m. on Highway 12 at Melita Road, when an eastbound Ford Mustang crossed the center divider and struck a westbound Nissan Sentra head-on, according to police.

The Sentra overturned and landed in the westbound lane with people trapped inside.

The Sentra’s driver, a 77-year-old woman, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to a hospital with a neck fracture. The front passenger, an adult woman, was treated for cuts and scrapes, and a 4-year-old boy in the back seat suffered a broken arm, police said.

The driver of the Mustang, 20-year-old Shannon Hullinger of Santa Rosa, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. While she was there, police determined she had a blood alcohol level of .20, more than twice the legal limit for driving.

Hullinger was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and booked into Sonoma County Jail.

Witnesses and other with information on this incident are asked to call police at (707) 543-3600.
