Giants First Baseman Belt Breaks Left Thumb

LOS ANGELES (CBS / AP) -- San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt is out with a broken left thumb after he was hit by a pitch from Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Paul Maholm.

Belt was struck by Maholm's first pitch of the second inning on Friday night. He remained on the bases until the inning was over, and then was replaced defensively by Joaquin Arias.

Belt was batting .264 with 18 RBIs and a team-high nine home runs coming into the game.
