Vallejo Firefighters Rescue Raccoon Stuck Inside Storm Drain

VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- People walking along a Vallejo neighborhood street Thursday were stumped by the source of what sounded like cries from a baby - until firefighters arrived and determined it was some kind of critter stuck in a storm drain.

After investigating further, firefighters determined a raccoon was stuck under the street at the intersection of Brunswick and Georgia streets.

Firefighters snagged the raccoon and pulled it free Thursday afternoon, according to former Vallejo firefighter William Tweedy who observed the operation.

The raccoon was handed off to Suisun Wildlife rescue center for further evaluation, Tweedy said.
