Parking Fee Increase Expected At Mountain View Caltrain During Special Events At Levi's Stadium

MOUNTAIN VIEW (KCBS) – It could cost a bit more to park at the Mountain View Caltrain Station during San Francisco 49ers games and other special events at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.

There is a proposal to increase the parking fee to $25, up from the normal daily fee of $5 at the station.

"Because of concerns that people headed to the Niners game will park at our station and take VTA Light Rail over to try to avoid the cost of parking at the stadium, " said Jayme Ackemann with Caltrain.

The model follows a similar agreement Caltrain has with the SAP Center in downtown San Jose, where the Diridon Station is used in a similar fashion, for San Jose Sharks games, and other events at the facility.

"To become overflow parking when they have a major event at their arena, and we find that on those days, our lots are full and overflowing," Ackemann said.

A final vote on the parking fee increase is expected in early July, and if approved, it would take effect in August. There is currently no formal opposition to the plan.

The parking fee would increase two hours before a football game or special event at Levi's Stadium.
