Parolee Suspected Of Punching 89-Year Old Woman Before Stealing Car From East Bay Parking Lot
EL CERRITO (CBS SF) -- Police were looking for a parolee who is suspected of attacking an 89-year-old woman before stealing her car in a CVS pharmacy parking lot in El Cerrito on Sunday afternoon.
Based on a witness description, police have identified the suspect as 28-year-old parolee Terrance James Hardy.
At about 1:55 p.m. on Sunday, police responded to a report of a carjacking that had occurred in the parking lot of a CVS at 10650 San Pablo Ave.
When officers arrived at the parking lot, they found the elderly El Cerrito woman injured and lying on the ground, police said.
Police said the woman drove her car to the pharmacy to pick up her medications. After leaving CVS the woman walked back to her car and was confronted by a man as she was getting inside her car.
The man punched the woman and pulled her out of her car. He then drove away in her car, according to police.
The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to the hospital. Police said her face and torso were injured by the man and that she suffered a broken collar bone and broken ribs. She has been hospitalized but is expected to survive her injuries, police said today.
A witness at the scene described the suspect to a police officer and the El Cerrito Police Department was able to identify Hardy as a suspect in the carjacking. Hardy is also on parole but has no known address.
Police said there is a warrant out for Hardy's arrest on suspicion of carjacking and elder abuse causing great bodily injury. The suspect is considered dangerous, due to the violent nature of the assault.
Hardy is described as a black man standing about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds, police said.
The woman's car is described as a white 1992 Toyota Camry with the license plate 2ZNR291, as of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday the car had not been located.
Anyone who sees the stolen vehicle or has information as to Hardy's whereabouts is encouraged to notify law enforcement immediately.
