Legendary Radio DJ And American Top 40 Host Casey Kasem To Be Taken Off Life Support

(CBS SF)--Casey Kasem's daughter got permission from a judge to take the legendary American Top 40 host off life support, ending food, water, and medicine as the 82-year-old DJ lay dying from dementia and bed sores in a Washington State care facility.

Kasem had an end-of-life health directive asking that support be removed if it "...would result in a mere biological existence, devoid of cognitive function, with no reasonable hope for normal functioning."

Kasem's second wife Jean fought the decision, calling it a death sentence.

Kasem became an icon of pop music, with American Top 40, beginning in 1970, and ending with his legendary sign off, "Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars."
