Oakland Sears Store Closing By End Of Summer

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- The sears store in downtown Oakland will be gone by the end of summer.

The building on Broadway has been sold and the company has no plans to stay there. The new owners plan to turn it into a retail and office center.

Sears is the last of the large department stores in downtown Oakland. It was there for more than 70 years.

The store was targeted in recent years during protests and had numerous windows broken. Store managers decided not to replace them after a riot, last summer.
