Downed Power Line Sparks Fire Threatening Buildings Near Clayton

WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) — A vegetation fire has scorched at least 100 acres and is threatening some buildings near Clayton at the base of Mount Diablo Friday night.

The Contra Costa County Fire Department said the fire is burning near Marsh Creek Road, which has been shut down.

KPIX 5 staffer Ashley Neal said she was at her mother’s house Friday night when the fire broke out. Neal said they are planning to evacuate from the area late Friday night.

According to authorities, a vehicle went over an embankment and knocked down a power pole which sparked the blaze.

The area where the fire is burning is fairly rural and there are not a lot of homes in the area.
