MENLO PARK (CBS SF) – President Obama confirmed Friday morning that one American passport-holder was killed on Malaysia Air flight 17 Thursday, it now appears that man may have ties to the Bay Area, but was studying in Amsterdam.

Quinn Lucas Schansman held dual citizenship in Holland, according to a Twitter post from State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki. President Obama confirmed his identity during a press briefing in Washington.

A CBS News public records search indicates 54-year-old Thomas Schansman has had a Menlo Park address. It is believed Thomas Schansman is the father of Quinn Schansman. According to Thomas Schansman’s LinkedIn Page, he is a sales executive with Siemens PLM Software in the Tilburg Area of the Netherlands. Siemens PLM also has offices in San Jose.

A Siemens employee told KPIX 5 a search of the company directory shows Thomas Schansman works in the Netherlands.

Quinn Schansman’s Facebook profile indicates updated his address to Amsterdam on April 24th, where he was studying at the International Business School.

According to Quinn’s Facebook account was in a relationship with a woman named Floor van Dranen, who has since left loving tributes to him and posted a photo last night that appear to be the couple kissing.

Schansman’s plane was carrying 298 people was shot down over eastern Ukraine on Thursday, and both the government and the pro-Russia separatists fighting in the region denied any responsibility for downing the aircraft.
