San Jose Police Arrest Man Seen Firing Gun At Moving Car Near School

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A male suspect was arrested Friday after San Jose police witnessed him firing a gun at a vehicle as it sped away near an elementary school in South San Jose, a police spokesman said.

At about 3:18 p.m. Friday, officers on patrol near the intersection of Ezie Street and Richdale Avenue about a block from the Los Arboles Elementary School saw a male pedestrian talking to a person seated in a vehicle, according to San Jose police Officer Albert Morales.

The pedestrian then brandished a gun and started firing bullets toward the vehicle as the driver sped away, Morales said.

Officers then conducted a "high risk" stop of the pedestrian, who was disarmed and taken into custody without incident, according to the officer.

No one was reported injured in the shooting, but it is not known if the person in the vehicle was wounded, Morales said.

The vehicle targeted in the shooting is still at large, police said.

Officers canvassed the neighborhood to see if any citizens were injured and if anyone witnessed the shooting, Morales said.

Authorities also contacted area hospitals to find out if any gunshot victims had been admitted, police said.
