Crews Battle 3-Vehicle Fire In Campbell; 40 Residents Evacuated

CAMPBELL (CBS SF) -- Crews knocked down a multiple car fire that forced evacuations at an apartment complex in Campbell.

A 3-vehicle fire started around 4 a.m. on the 100 block of Union Avenue when a car burst into flames and spread to two nearby cars.

The fire grew, forcing evacuations of 40 people living in an apartment complex next door.

The heat and the flames ruptured the gas tank of two cars. Up to 40 pounds of fuel started leaking into the storm drain. Crews rushed to plug up the drain and pump the fuel and water mixture out. Crews said little made it into the Los Gatos Creek.

All residents were allowed to go back home. No injuries or damage to the apartment building have been reported.
