Don't Fall For This Hoax: Fake Ad Tells iPhone Users To Microwave Their Devices

CUPERTINO (CBS SF) – One day after Apple (AAPL) released their latest version of iOS, a hoax has surfaced telling users to charge their iPhones in the microwave.

CBS affiliate KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh reports that the hoax ad posted on Twitter uses fonts, logos and colors similar to those in legitimate Apple ads. The fake ad claims the new iOS 8 operating system has "Wave" technology.

"You can now Wave-charge your device by placing it within a household microwave for a minute and a half," the posting says.

Last year, a similar hoax emerged during the release of Apple's iOS 7, which claimed the software update would make their phones waterproof.

iOS 8 became available to users on Wednesday. The operating system packs several new features, including fitness tracking, an improved keyboard and the Apple Pay mobile payment system for the latest iPhones.
