SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Brandon Crawford’s slam off Edinson Volquez in the fourth inning led the Giants to an 8-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League wild-card game Wednesday night, sending San Francisco on to Washington for the best-of-five Division Series starting Friday.
The Coach watched the game and said there was a lesson to be learned.
“All these people who talk about, “Oh it’s a hard place to play going on the road, you know the crowd, the noise—we can’t take it!’ I think there was a great lesson right there from the Giants on how to take the crowd out of the game,” he said.
“They went from yelling, chanting—Bumgarner goes out there and kind of mows them down for a while, Brandon Crawford hits a home run with the bases loaded— and then they’re all quiet. And then pretty soon, they’re going to their houses—they leave. They leave the venue…that’s the way you do it if you’re worried about crowd noise: shut them up and play like those guys did.”
